There hasn’t been a more entertaining Corvette in recent memory than the 2025 ZR1. We aren’t just saying that because it hurls 1,064 horsepower exclusively at its rear Michelins, either. From initial configurators and pricing to top speed records, the long-awaited return of Nürburgring laps, and a host of production issues, the new King of the Hill has been content gold since its debut last July.
One of the most compelling of the many storylines surrounding the Euro-slaying monster is a byproduct of its unique combination of outrageous speed and limited production numbers. This mix of desirability and scarcity has created an unprecedented seller’s market up to this point, but that’s only part of the story. After dealing with similarly frenzied conditions at the dawn of the Stingray, Z06, and E-Ray eras, Chevrolet launched a preemptive anti-flipping program for the ZR1. In an attempt to keep these cars in the hands of people who actually want to enjoy them as they were designed while clamping down on speculators and rogue dealers that would push prices through the roof, Bow Tie HQ slapped a one-year owner retention program that, if broken, would void the flipped car’s warranty and land the flipper on a list of people who are barred from purchasing “in demand” Chevys for an unspecified amount of time.
To GM’s credit, the threat of being put “on timeout” (especially with a 1,250-horse ‘Vette waiting in the wings) seems to have some teeth, with very few of the 100ish ZR1s produced for model year one entered the open market. But, among all of this captivating drama, one high-end Dealership has dared to go against the grain and is absolutely cleaning up on flipped ZR1s like Chazz Reinhold at a funeral.
Last month, the first resale ZR1 was listed in the stratosphere. Status Auto Group of Staten Island, New York, got its hands on an example out of the West Coast and had it listed for an ambitious $450,000. It lasted all of four days before setting the new going rate for well-spec’d versions of the first factory twin-turbo Corvette. All was quiet on the used ZR1 front for a couple of weeks, then a surprisingly similar example went through the dealers-only Manheim Auction, hammering for a respectable $391,000. And wouldn’t you know it, the winning bidder was none other than Status Auto.
That car – number 52 off the line – features a striking Sea Wolf over Adrenaline Red Dipped colorway accented by red calipers, Carbon Flash 20-spoke wheels, and the big dog carbon fiber aero package (sans ZTK). It was also upfitted with front-end lift, black exhaust tips, Carbon Flash mirrors, and interior options including level 2 Carbon Fiber trim, Carbon sill plates, the stealth interior package, and the sueded upper interior package. SAG is looking for a cool $58,999 profit, slapping a first-flip-equaling $449,999 window sticker on their beautiful beast.
As if that wasn’t enough, they’ve somehow procured yet another 2025 ZR1 as of August 13th. Status’ third (around 3% of total production already!) ZR1 wears VIN 94 and goes even further into Batmobile territory with a sinister black exterior draped over the same Red dipped guts. Pictures are still pending, but we know that #94, like the others, only has delivery miles and even retains the plastic seat covers fitted to protect it on its journey from Bowling Green. Again, it looks like a non-ZTK big wing car with the dark 20-spoke wheels, Bright Red calipers, front lift, Stealth interior, black quad-tips, and even comes with the optional leather travel bags. If you’re looking for a deal, this might be it, as the black car is asking $439,999.
After Status’ successes in C8 ZR1 flipping, copycats are sure to start coming out of the woodwork, but the near-monopoly they’ve managed to forge – and the associated profits – early on is pretty extraordinary. Whether or not you are happy with the unattainable prices we’re seeing, the guys out there on Staten Island seem worthy of some sort of capitalist award, and we’ll be sure to continue monitoring their effects on the ebbs and flows of the newest corner of Corvette hobby.
