Women Artists Dominate This Year’s Grammy Nominations

Girl power was the theme of this year’s Grammy nominations.

SZA topped the list for the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, getting nine nominations, including for Album of the Year. Her album SOS was a smash hit, giving us the Record of the Year and Song of the Year nominated “Kill Bill.”

Indie rock singer songwriter Phoebe Bridgers, producer Serban Ghenea and Victoria Monét collected a total of seven nominations each. Other artists sweeping nominations include Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus and Olivia Rodrigo, with each getting six nominations. Indie group boygenius, Jack Antonoff, Batiste and Brandy Clark also earned six.

Topping off an already impressive year for Swift in which she raked in millions with her Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour film release and the Eras concert tour, as well as her best album debut for 1989 (Taylor’s Version). With her Song of the Year nomination for her hit “Anti Hero,” she is the first person with seven nominations in the category.

With the nod for Midnights, Swift is tied with Barbara Streisand for the most Album of the Year Grammy nominations. If she wins, Swift will become the first person in Grammy history to win the award four times, after having won the honor for her albums, Fearless, 1989 and Folklore. She is currently the only woman artist to win Album of the Year three times in a club that includes Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon.

The music from the Barbie movie also featured heavily on the nominations list. Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” — the soundtrack for the movie — is nominated for Record of the Year and Pop Solo Performance. “Dance the Night,” Dua Lipa’s song for the Barbie album, and Eilish’s song are also nominated for Song of the Year. “Barbie World,” “Dance the Night,” “What Was I Made For?” and “I’m Just Ken” all received nods in the Best Song Written for Visual Media nominees. The soundtrack also received a nomination for Best Compilation Soundtrack.

Lana Del Rey, who has yet to receive a Grammy, is up for Album of the Year and Best Alternative Music Album for Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. Her song “A&W” is nominated in the categories Song of the Year and Best Alternative Music Performance.

And this year’s youngest Grammy nominee is only 2 years old. Hazel Monét received a nod with her mother for Hollywood in the Best Traditional R&B Performance category. Victoria Monét, a singer-songwriter who has written songs for Chloe x Halle, is up for Best New Artist and Record of the Year among other categories.

While a host for music’s biggest night has yet to be announced, the 66th edition of the Grammy Awards will take place on Feb. 4 at Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles.
