Ogdensburg and its surrounding communities are holding a variety of holiday-themed events in December. If you have such an event that you would like published please email [email protected].
The following are the events and activities taking place until Christmas in order of when they are taking place:
— River Lights at Bayside Park will kick off block party will take place at 4 p.m., sponsored by Morristown Promotions. This year’s theme is “Fantasy Land.” There will be light displays, fire pits, wagon and train rides for kids, entertainment by DJ Scott Boyer as well as snacks and drinks at the kick-off event held at the boat launch.
The light display will be on display each evening through December and early January.
— The Lights on the River at Lisbon Beach and Campground will run from Dec. 14 to Monday, Dec. 23. The schedule is as follows: Saturday, Dec. 14 from 5-9 p.m.; Sunday, Dec. 15 from 5-8 p.m.; Monday, Dec. 16 from 5-8 p.m.; Tuesday, Dec. 17 from 5-8 p.m.; Wednesday, Dec. 18 from 5-8 p.m.; Thursday, Dec. 19 from 5-8 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 20 from 5-9 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 21 from 5-9 p.m.; Sunday, Dec. 22 from 5-9 p.m.; and Monday, Dec. 23 from 5-8 p.m.
— The First Congregational Church, 9226 Five Mile Road, Lisbon, will be holding their annual Christmas Cookie Sale from 9 a.m. to noon. Dozens of varieties of delicious, homemade Christmas cookies will be available for your choosing. The cookies will be sold by the pound. Stop in on your way to Lisbon’s “Holidays in the Hamlet.”
— The Ogdensburg History Museum is excited to announce its upcoming Old Fashioned Christmas Children’s Program at 11:30 a.m. The event will take place at the museum located at 206 Ford St. and is free and open to the public. Led by retired kindergarten teacher, Nancy Mashaw, the program will feature a variety of activities for children to enjoy. From a festive holiday story to a fun craft and activity, children will have the opportunity to get into the holiday spirit while learning about the past.
In addition, Barbara O’Keefe, president of Fort la Presentation Association, will be on hand to demonstrate how to play with toys from the past. Children will even have the chance to play with these toys themselves, giving them a hands-on experience of what it was like to play during the holiday season in years gone by.
All children must be accompanied by an adult and must register in advance at Ogdensburghistorymuseum.com. Space is limited to the first 25 participants.
— Brier Hill Fire Department’s annual Breakfast with Santa will take place from 8-11 a.m. at the fire hall. The event is free, but donations are accepted. Children will be able to meet Santa, have their photos taken and receive a gift.
— The Lisbon Volunteer Fire Department will be holding a Breakfast with Santa from 9 a.m. to noon at the fire hall. All community members are welcome to attend the free breakfast that will include pancakes, scrambled eggs, toast, home fries, bacon and sausage, milk, coffee and juice.
— The First Presbyterian Church of Ogdensburg, 423 Ford St., will be presenting “A Victorian Christmas Experience” at 2 p.m.
“Step back in time for two and a half hours and celebrate Christmas as Charles Dickens did. This experience is more than a play or a musical. YOU get to be a part of it. Play some parlor games, watch and learn some Victorian dances and enjoy singing Christmas carols with our carolers, then treat yourself to some period appropriate treats,” a Facebook post stated.
An Ugly Christmas Sweater and Cookie Exchange Party will be taking place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ogdensburg Elks Lodge 772.
Participates must make at least two to three dozen cookies (try to avoid chocolate chip cookies, they want some variety); bring a container to take your cookies home in; bring a copy of your recipe if you’re willing to share (but we understand if some family recipes are top secret); and dress in your most festive or fun outfit.
There will also be prizes for the best cookie and the best presentation. Hosted by Susan Martin and Stacey Soluri.
— A Holiday Gift Wrapping Fundraiser will take place from 4-7 p.m. at the Heuvelton Fire Department. A minimum of a $5 donation is asked.
Bring your gifts and have them wrapped for you. You can choose from provided paper or bring your own. Warm beverages and baked goods will be available to purchase. Proceeds will benefit the Heuvelton Girl Scouts trip.
— A Winter Wonderland Concert performed by the Northern Lights Orchestra will take place at 7 p.m. in the Ogdensburg Free Academy auditorium. All proceeds will benefit the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center Foundation. Tickets can be purchased by logging onto https://CHMCWinterConcerteventbrite.com.
— The December “Third Friday” event will be a Christmas Coffee House at the First Congregational Church of Morristown, beginning at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend this free event and enjoy holiday refreshments, warm fellowship, and traditional Christmas songs. The church is located at 541 Sand Street Road, two miles from State Route 37, between Brier Hill and North Hammond.
— Ogdensburg Recreation’s Skate with Santa will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Richard G. Lockwood Civic Center, 141 West River St., Ogdensburg. Entry fee is $2 and skate rental are $3.
